AOC's Met Gala dress ridiculed by Chinese dissident cartoonist. Published on Sep 14.
To some, the progressives are largely seen as a precursor to CCP style dictatorship.
AOC's "Tax the Rich" dress at Met Gala has been the talk of the day...even in the Chinese dissident community. A famous anti-CCP cartoonist, in a new post, linked it to Xi Jinping's latest "common prosperity" campaign that aims to redistribute wealth in China.
People who oppose the comparison argue that what AOC advocates for is different from a dictator abusing his power and forcing private companies to give out its revenue.
The progressive wing of the Democrats has long been a target in the eyes of many Chinese dissidents living in the US/West, who see their push for economic equality a dangerous idea similar to CCP's that would result in gov't taking over everything & ending up with a dictatorship.
Then there are of course conspiracy theories that the progressives, or even the entire Dems, are in the pocket of the CCP. When BLM broke out, there was misinfo that it was sponsored by CCP. On Biden's Inauguration Day, his Asian-American security guy was rumored to be a CCP spy.
And the largely conservative Chinese dissidents and those who sympathize with them are becoming a political force domestically. In Telegram groups, many of them were actively organizing protests against Dem officials nationwide and collecting signatures for Newsom's recall.
At a June 4th event, I interviewed an activist who said she would like to see more anti-CCP officials elected in the US who want to protect America's freedom. When I asked what she meant by freedom, she said, for example, President Trump's ability to stay on social media.
